Compactory

Local co-op factory game on Steam: automation, tight spaces, and quotas under pressure.

Solo developer · Jan 2024 – Dec 2024 · Free on Steam

A local co-op factory game. You share a tiny floor, place belts and crafters, and race a quota. Automate enough of the line to keep up — then the next order asks for more.

Shipped on Steam as a solo developer — design, code, UI, and the 3D work. Updates continued after launch from what players asked for.

The line

Lay belts and crafters in a room that barely fits the line.

Co-op

Local co-op on the same floor — split the jobs, share the jams.

Quota

Each round is a quota. Craft what it asks for before time runs out.

Automation

Automate the busywork so you can rebuild when the next order is worse.

The factory

Keep expanding without locking yourself out of the next machine.

The run

A cramped factory, a rising quota, and whoever is on the other controller.

What landed

4,000+ Steam licenses granted (free to play)

Sustained post-launch updates from player feedback

How it was built

  • Unity C# factory sim: belts, crafters, and quotas on one shared floor.
  • Local co-op (up to 4; extra players need a controller) and remappable input.
  • Modular placeable blocks so machines can be added without rewriting the loop.
  • Steamworks.NET: Cloud save, stats, and listing integration.
  • Blender for the 3D set.

The hard parts

One floor, two bodies

Co-op in a tight space without stealing placements or locking the other player out of a machine.

The tick

Keep belts and crafters readable when the room fills up.

Ship vs online

Deferred online multiplayer so local co-op actually launched. Steam Cloud had to be reliable without it.
