Penguin League
Gameplay Engineer ยท Unity, PurrNet
Penguin League is a top-down turn-based soccer game where players used penguin-themed cards to modify gameplay. Play cards, aim your penguins, then watch what happens!
How it was built
I conceptualized Penguin League with a friend at the start of the Fall 2025 semester at Cal Poly Pomona. It was originally meant to be just a penguin hockey game similar to Bobble League on Discord, but we wanted to add a deck building twist to it. We started brainstorming various penguin species to add to the game and the overall game loop, but our courses in Fall 2025 kept us busy. We agreed to stop development in January 2026 when I decided I wanted to work on Compactory 2.
The hard parts
Species-based Mechanics
We had to research all penguin species and their uniqueness to help brainstorm the design of each playable species.
Online Multiplayer
Since this was my first time really getting into online multiplayer and PurrNet, it was difficult to learn. However, that effort proved to be useful for Compactory 2.
